The Nerve
How dare you?
Who do you think you are?
Are all phrases I said tonight, but not in the context you think.
When you decide to do something as daring as start a business, all of the guides and advice articles tell you to scream it from the rooftops, tell everyone you know. That’s all good if you have a nice, supportive circle of family and friends around you. Not everyone has that luxury. Sometimes, the people that are closest to you don’t believe in you or your business. Instead of wishing you well in your endeavors, they try to break you down because they have never tried to achieve anything on their own, so how dare you?
Why don’t you just get a good job like the rest of us? Who do you think you are?
I’ll tell you who I know I am. I am a smart and determined woman. When I put my mind to something I accomplish it, I’m not saying it’s easy, but I don’t give up. It took starting this business to learn that about myself and it was the best lesson I could’ve learned.
How dare you try to force your fears on me, I already told you how I feel about fear, it’s a choice that I’m not making anymore. Doing this takes courage and thick skin. It is not for the weak and I’m not going into this timidly. I have goals I plan to reach and I won’t feel bad or second-guess myself. You’ve got some nerve to question me, but I have the Nerve, Gall, and Audacity to answer you and that answer will be in my success.
I know this sounds emotional and it is, but it’s honest. The seed of doubt was planted with the idea of starting a business. However, there is always something or someone that will water that seed, whether they know it or not. You have to make sure that seed can’t grow. Cut that weed and burn the roots so it can’t grow back because doubt is the biggest killer of dreams.
You need to have Nerve, Gall and Audacity to do this.
